What led you to grind

What led you to grind
How did you get into grind? Through metal, through punk, through randomly listening to your mates albums, whatever. Post it here.

For me, I was always into punk. I gradually started discovering hardcore bands, and I loved the raw aspect of it, and the anger, and the speed. This led me to powerviolence and crust, and eventually grind. The first grind album I ever heard was by the only grind band I have ever known of from Wales, called snuff fetish. It wasn't very good as far as grind goes (i believe it was a one man project) but from that I started to love bands like quattro staggioni, roskopp, insect warfare and phobia. And it just grew from there I guess.

RE: What led you to grind
A few different things I guess. I was always into punk. When I was about 14, I heard Spazz for the first time on a sampler. My brother had always been into metal, and about the same time I heard Spazz I started listening to some of my brothers death metal samplers. I was never into the death metal stuff that much really, but I always loved the black metal. After getting more into powerviolence and black metal I started hearing a lot about grindcore, and was pretty curious. Not long after I got a copy of Scum by Napalm Death and was really into that for ages but never listened to other Grind really, except a few Repulsion, Brutal Truth, Impetigo and Dead Infection tracks on samplers.

I got really into The Locust and Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Pig Destoyer when I was about 18 whilst I was at college - I'd kinda been aware of them before, just never listened to them much. I only started getting into less "mainstream" grind stuff when I was 22 or so. My ex girlfriend was really, really into death metal and I was really into punk still, so grindcore was almost a happy medium - something we both really loved. I've been kinda into grind in some way for 12 years or so, but only really, really into it the last 4 or 5 years.

Punk's dead. You're next.

RE: What led you to grind
I could never get into black metal, though I haven't bothered with the genre really.

And yeah, most people seem to get into grind through napalm death, which I always found odd. I didn't like scum a lot, and i've never liked bands like agoraphobic nosebleed or pig destroyer, although the locust are okay.

RE: What led you to grind
Personally I got into Grindcore through metal, I am not ashamed to admit that sadly Limb Bizkit got me into metal, but that's another story and for the record I realise know he is a shit musician, but when you are 9 you have no sense of quality control. Yeah I just kept progressing up the metal chain, as I liked some of the more cut throat aspects of it, and wanted more and more, then I came across Grind and loved, and still have.
Most people will probably come via the punk route, and although I have neglected the punkish side of Grind, I am sure I have sufficiently caught up, but in all honesty I feel metal still retains an edge over punk, but that's something for the individual.

Hahaha limp bizkit man. You're brave to admit that on these forums hahaha. But yeah I like metal too, but I don't like much (mostly thrash, death, sludge kinda stuff) and i'll always prefer punk.

I bought their first album, I don't care. I don't have it anymore I don't think. If I do I'm going to take a picture of myself with it and use it as my avatar. hahaha. No one just like fucking listens to grind out of no where. We all go through stupid ass bands, until the one magical moment where you hear the band in the genre that blows your fucking mind. And it's like crack you just can't stop anymore. You're on the forever search of the ban that can blast beat your heart in cardiac arrest.

as far as listening to grind, when I was younger I'd listen to whatever my parents listened to like 80's shit, r&b, whatever. At 7, I was really into Guns N' Roses. Then I had a stint listening to hip hop, until about 3rd or 4th grade when my buddy introduced me to grunge and punk. I listened to that, and eventually listen to metal too. At first like radio and MTV type of shit, but then eventually networked enought to be shown cool shit. By 9th grade I was pretty much full into hardcore, punk, and metal. I was never satisfied with this. My first stint in college I was waiting at a bus stop and this dude had a Los Crudos patch, and burnt me some cd's and then introduced me to his band. Before that I was shown some bands through Napster. During college though this p2p program something satellite was really popular and would recommend bands based on what you were downloading, so I found a lot of bands that way, then by this time google wa sin full effect, so I spent alot of time googling new bands. blah blah, whatever. I listen to grindcore now. whoopty doo. Fucking gay ass biography thread.

If you came here to talk about napalm death, nasum, rotten sound, any other crappy ass death metal band/technical death metal posing as grindcore, we will clash.

RE: What led you to grind
It's just interesting to see how people ended up listening to grindcore. This forum is fucking dead and no-one is making threads so I thought fuck it. It's like you said, no-one just listens to grind out of nowhere haha.
