PIPA and SOPA

I'm assuming there's a few Americans on here. I'm not, not sure how it would effect somebody like myself... anyway. What are your thoughts on the bill?

The only thing that's totally bugged me so far (and I've not read up well, yet) is that this site: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/01/how-pipa-and-sopa-violate-white-house-principles-supporting-free-speech keep mentioning

I guess my major 'it is balls' point is that the bill goes against the legal (and it seems most, if not all nations operate under this assumption) notion that you are innocent until proven guilty.

Anybody got new things to add? Thoughts? Objections?

This is fairly old news. Both have been defeated by massed internet protests. Wikipedia, reddit and several other websites went 'dark'. So whilst both are shelved for now, there's a new bill about 'protecting kids from paedophiles', which is even more savage in its general-worded shit. Same thing but worse, dressed differently. Think of the children!

These bullshit censor/control the internet bills will continue to come until someone finally manages to do it. SOPA/PIPA might be gone for now, but their replacement is waiting in the wings.

Yeah, a couple of new ones. ACTA and the child porn one. On the other hand, some planned European legislation could soon have Facebook, Amazon, and the like under far stricter data control laws. Basically, they'll have to explicitly ask for any details of yours they keep, and they have to delete any data on you permanently, by your request, or be fined to SMITHEREENS!

Well what facebook is doing does make sense, although, might not be necessary. The more you give them, depening on context, could be used to identify the real you as opposed to someone else who's trying to be you. So if they had the data that your first pet name was 'schmoozle' and somebody was trying to hack your account but only knew your birthday and house address, then they cant get in, ya dig?
All that being said... who the fuck cares about facebook being hacked? I only have fake details up there, ones that I remember, but if somebody hacks my account, I won't care. I'll move on.
